Elias Motsoaledi destitute families receive groceries and blankets
TAFELKOP – Hundreds of disadvantaged families in Tafelkop benefitted from Sekhukhune District Municipality’s blankets and groceries distribution program which the municipality rolled out with the help of the local business community on 18 July, Mandela Day.
Executive Mayor Minah Bahula led the initiative which took place in Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality’s Ward 26 at Moshate wa Bakgaga Ba Kopa in Tafekop to ensure that that the less fortunate in the community receive assistance. Six families identified from each of the the 31 wards of the municipality benefited from the program.
Beneficiaries from vulnerable backgrounds, including child-headed families, expressed gratitude for the support they received.
Lesego Skhosana, one of the recipients, expressed, “May God bless Executive Mayor Bahula and her collective. We appreciate the gesture. Today and for the next few days, we will have something to eat.”
Morgan Mmela shared the sentiments, saying, “We thank Sekhukhune District Municipality for the groceries and the blankets.”
Kenneth Maloma from Ward 25 echoed, “May the leadership of Mmago Noah (Bahula) be an example to many. Sekhukhune District Municipality is indeed in good hands.”
Reflecting on Nelson Mandela’s legacy of compassion and service, Bahula emphasized on the importance of community support and collective responsibility in addressing poverty and uplifting the vulnerable.
This initiative which showcases community spirit as businesses collaborated with local government, not only met immediate needs but also inspired hope and solidarity among the residents.
Bahula further appealed to communities and leaders to always prioritize child-headed families in development projects and employment opportunities.
“This is what Tata Mandela fought and stood for. Let us emulate his service to the people of South Africa and beyond,” said Bahula.
Limpopo MEC for Health, Dieketseng Mashego and Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality Mayor, Mayor David Tladi, representatives from businesses, several councillors and the local traditional authority were also in attendance to witness the noble gesture.
