Geographical names change in the pipeline

JANE FURSE – The effort of the Municipal Geographic Names Change Committee (MGNCC) of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality on public consultations was noted during a special council meeting held on Friday, 28 June at the council chamber in Jane Furse.

The meeting also endorsed the reviewed human resources management and development policies to regulate and improve operations and oversight of management.

The council considered reports from the MGNCC together with the proposed programme for public consultations with affected communities and traditional leaders.

Thomas Mashabela, MLM spokesperson, said the MGNCC listed areas that have been proposed for name-changing, which are, Nebo, Vleisboom, Eensaam, Schoonoord and Wonderboom. Mashabela indicated that a schedule for public consultations will be announced in the coming days.

The reviewed Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and cooperate support policy also saw approval in the meeting. Among others, consideration was placed on the utilization of municipal agricultural mechanization in support of SMMEs and cooperatives.

Furthermore, as required by the human resource policy framework, the council approved the reviewed human resource management and development policies for financial year 2024/2025.

Experiential training, internship, internal bursary, external bursary, training and development, recruitment and selection, customer care, performance management and development system policies of the municipality are some of those that have been reviewed effective from 1 July.

“Additionally, the council approved upper limits for senior managers and municipal managers and extended the period of acting appointment for Senior Manager Economic Development and the Chief Financial Officer for a further period not exceeding three months, in accordance with the Municipal Systems Act,” indicated Mashabela.
