Duo nabbed for possession of an unlicensed firearm and armed robbery
JANE FURSE/NEBO – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Burgersfort, together with Jane Furse and Nebo Tracking Team nabbed two men aged 26 and 33 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and armed robbery during an intelligence driven operation that was conducted in Sekhukhune district on Monday, 17 June.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said the duo was arrested following a spate of armed robberies with a firearm, committed earlier during the month of June this year in Jane Furse and Nebo policing areas.
Ledwaba indicated that the suspects were reportedly travelling in a white VW Polo Vivo motor vehicle that was utilized to commit the offences.
According to Ledwaba, it is alleged that the 33 year-old male suspect is also an employee at a mine, working as a plant operator in Witbank, Mpumalanga province.
“It is reported that on Sunday, 16 June at about 22:05, the duo pointed two female victims with a firearm and robbed them of cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene, driving in a Polo in the Jane Furse policing area. During the arrest, the two suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with a pepper spray, cellphones and bank cards that were positively identified by the victims,” explained Ledwaba.
The suspects were expected to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 19 June on charges of robbery with a firearm and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The outcome of their court appearance had not been received at the time of going to press.
