Limpopo health MEC Phophi Ramathuba will on May 13 activate 24-hour healthcare services at Praktiseer Clinic. Ramathuba is also expected to monitor water challenges that are affecting patients at this clinic.
Praktiseer Clinic provides services to more than 20 communities. In August 2023,patients claimed they had to bring along their own water as the health facility faced water challenges.
During a visit by this publication on August 22, 2023, the toilets at the facility were not working and patients could not use the pit latrine as it was full. Community members also raised their concerns about the shortage of nurses at the health facility.
According to them, this became evident when they visited the local clinic and were sent home without being attended to. They said they were told it does not have enough nurses to assist them.
A resident of Tubatse said that she visits the facility for her chronic treatment. According to her, she was recently forced to go home after having waited for an entire day at the clinic, and did so without receiving any assistance.
“Only three nurses are expected to assist hundreds of patients. Some patients arrive as early as 03:00, just to book a place in the queue, and are only assisted at 09:00,” alleged the patients.
Praktiseer is one of the biggest townships in Limpopo. The area has only one clinic and is highly populated.
A patient who visits the clinic regularly expects Ramathuba’s visit to improve conditions at this clinic. ” This is our last hope, her intervention can save many lives and improve conditions and services at the clinic.”
Ramathuba will also visit Motsepe Clinic on May 13, to also activate 24 hours services.
