Makua earns two ROYGMA 2024 Awards nominations
Tukakgomo
A local based gospel musician, Abram Makua, was nominated twice in the 2024 Royal Gospel Music Awards (ROYGMA). Makua, from Tukakgomo Village in Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM), received nominations in the Best Song of the Year as well as Best Male Artist of the Year categories.
He started his music career at a tender age of 10 singing at a local church in his village. From there, Makua never looked back and started singing with a school choir where his group started winning in various competitions.
In 2003, Makua was featured as one of the backing vocalists of the internationally renowned gospel artist, Dr Winnie Mashaba where he gained exposure and started to record singles and solo albums.
In the same year, he recorded his ten-song album titled; ‘Gororiswe’, which was registered with RiSA and SAMRO. A few weeks following its release, Gororiswe gained popularity and was played in local and national radio stations.
Speaking to the publication, Makua said his love for gospel music was inspired by church choir and clap and tap choirs.
“I love gospel music with all my heart and I believe gospel music heals broken spirits and hearts,” he said.
Makua is pleading with the public to support him through their votes so that he can win both accolades in the upcoming ROYGMA Awards, by SMS ROYGMA 135 for Song of the Year category and ROYGMA 456 for Best Male Artist to 40439. SMS cost R2.00, voting closes on 31 July 2024.
