Makhuduthamaga MPAC scrutinizes work of council
JANE FURSE – Makhuduthamaga Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC) successfully conducted a mass hearing on Friday, 15 at Kgaola Mafiri Municipal Building.
The public hearing intended to examine the work done by the municipal council through the Executive Committee (Exco), based on the Draft Annual Report 2022/2023.
Led by its Chairperson, Diketane Selege Paul, the MPAC committee has, in terms of the Local Government Municipal Systems Act, probed the institution’s performance through the tabling of 96 questions before the executive arm of council.
Thomas Mashabela, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality’s Acting Communications Manager, explained that the hearing’s panel of Exco members was led by the Head of Economic Development and Planning, Mr. Sam Mogobe Malaka who acted on behalf of the Mayor, Merah Mahlase.
Mashabela stated that the hearing noted great performance from all departments, with the overall performance of 98.6% in the previous year.
“The report reflects a huge development and progress on over 10 roads and bridge projects. The municipality also completed electrification projects for 300 households at Setlaboswana and Mohwelere villages. The Exco further highlighted to the MPAC that Dihlabaneng Village was not electrified as planned due to lack of capacity as advised by Eskom,” said Mashabela.
He indicated that the municipality will engage with Eskom about the list of villages with low power capacity around plans to increase it and to look at other alternative power solutions such as upgrading of existing substations and building of voltage regulators.
