SDM holds three-day strategic planning sessions
GROBLERSDAL – Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) held a three-day strategic planning session at the Loskop Dam last week.
During the session, Executive Mayor Minah Bahula emphasized that the municipality is not dysfunctional and that the rollover of allocated funds is a thing of the past.
The gathering aimed to assess and improve service delivery to the residents of Sekhukhune district. Bahula commended the productive engagements between the political an administrative interfaces.
“Our citizens must see and witness tangible and demonstrable services that empower them. For them to continue to participate in the democratic process of our country,” stressed Bahula as she highlighted the upcoming elections as declared by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
It emerged as key resolution in the session to urgently advertise and fill critical vacant positions in the municipality to enhance departmental capabilities before the end of the financial year.
Bahula further pledged to expedite the rollout of the borehole programme to over 80 traditional authorities in the district, providing them interim access to water in the next few months.
Additionally, measures were discussed to drill boreholes where infrastructure is lacking. A resolution was arrived at to install water detector technology to minimize leakage challenges.
The delegates agreed to fast-track mechanisms to unblock projects hindering service delivery. Increased training initiatives were also agreed upon to support and capacitate councillors in their responsibilities.
Lemson Moropjane, SDM Communications Head, said the municipality has achieved significant milestones in service delivery program, with 24% spending on critical infrastructure grants, allocated to capital projects by December last year. An increase from 4% to 65% spending is expected to be achieved by June this year.
“Furthermore, funding has been secured to unblock stagnant projects since 2017, eliciting praise from Bahula for its potential impact on the livelihoods of the people. All these progressive resolutions are still to be taken through to other echelon structures governing the municipality,” explained Moropjane.
Executive Mayor Bahula closed by reaffirming the municipality’s commitment to efficient governance and accelerated service delivery, ensuring the well-being and prosperity of its constituents.
