100 year-old elderly woman robbed
MASEHLANENG – A 31 year-old suspect who allegedly broke into a house belonging to an elderly woman at Masehlaneng Village within the Nebo policing precinct earlier this month, was finally tracked down and arrested on Tuesday, 13 February at his hiding place in Jane Furse.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said preliminary information indicates that the suspect broke into the house of a 100 year-old elderly woman in the early hours of 8 February, where he threatened her with a knife and robbed the elderly of an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect fled the scene but the victim was able to identify him.
Ledwaba indicated that police responded to the complainant and upon arrival, they opened a case of house robbery. The suspect has been on the run until his luck ran out when the multi-disciplinary team tracked him down to his homestead in Jane Furse.
South African Police Service Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest.
General Hadebe highlighted, “This reprehensible act against one of our community’s most vulnerable is utterly unacceptable. We condemn this cowardly crime in the strongest terms and we trust that the case will be diligently investigated to ensure justice is done.”
The suspect was expected to appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court o Wednesday, 14 February on a charge of house robbery. Sekhukhune Times had not had of the court verdict at the time of going to press on Wednesday.
