Strategizing to take Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality to greater heights
MARBLE HALL – Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality convened a vital three-day strategic planning session from 29 to 31 January 2024 at The Ranch Resort outside Polokwane.
Percy Moagi, Communications Manager, says the objective was to devise comprehensive strategies and implement robust systems to enhance the well-being of our constituents.
“In attendance were esteemed figures including His Worship the Mayor Given Moimana, Council Speaker Rebecca Lentsoane, Whip of Council Lina Magane, all councillors, Municipal Manager Mogobadi Moropa, senior managers, managers, representatives from labour unions, and COGHSTA,” informed Moagi.
In his inaugural address, Mayor Given Moimana highlighted the importance of adhering to the National Development Plan blueprint, urging management to tackle institutional challenges head-on, stressing on the need to improve MIG spending, to address outstanding projects, and to combat corruption. He set the tone for focused deliberations.
On the matter of Koteng informal settlement,
the meeting heard that, recognizing the hindrance to development posed by the informal settlement, the strategic planning session mandated special attention and relocation by the end of the 2023/24 financial year.
With regard to audit opinion of the local municipality, Mayor Moimana
commended the Management and Ephraim Mogale populace for achieving an Unqualified Audit Opinion while cautioning against complacency. Urgent action was called to address all issues highlighted by the Auditor General.
Acknowledging performance management as fundamental to good governance, the session articulated on the necessity for all employees to sign performance contracts, ensuring collective commitment to municipal objectives.
The institution resolved to implement stringent measures to prevent fleet misuse, with consequences outlined for employees engaging in unauthorized personal use.
A commitment was made to conduct comprehensive workshops with councilors on all policies before presentation for adoption in council sessions.
Collaboration with local mines to ensure compliance with Social Labour plans and proactive engagement with Transnet regarding underutilized assets were highlighted as key priorities for economic growth.
Recognizing the financial strain imposed by consultant dependency, the municipality pledged to minimize their usage. The importance of skill transfer and value for money in consultant engagements was emphasized.
In conclusion, Moimana rallied attendees to carry forward the energy and determination exhibited during the session into practical implementation.
“I stand here today with a sense of pride, reflecting on the strides and accomplishments our institution has made since last year. It’s evident that our collective efforts have propelled us forward. As we conclude this strategic planning session, I implore each of you to carry the same vigor and dedication back to your offices. The energy and focus we’ve invested over these past three days must continue as we embark on the journey of implementing our resolutions,” Cllr Moimana said.
He further stressed the importance of tangible progress in the coming year to enhance service delivery to the communities.
“Looking ahead, I envision a year of remarkable progress. It’s crucial that we translate our plans into tangible actions that directly benefit our communities. With concerted effort and unwavering commitment, we will not only meet but exceed expectations, delivering the quality services that the people of Ephraim Mogale deserve,” reiterated the Moimana.
