Work underway on RnR Bridge gets assessed
TAFELKOP – Limpopo Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure MEC, Nkakareng Rakgoale, accompanied by Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor, Minah Bahula and Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality Mayor, David Tladi visited Tafelkop on Monday, 27 November to assess the work underway on the RnR Bridge along the R574 Road.
Kgoshi Rammupudu II, Sekhukhune District Municipality Council Speaker, Kgwediebotse Chego together with MMCs, municipal and SANRAL officials, who particularly deal with infrastructure development, formed part of the entourage.
Work is currently underway at the project to fix the slump that developed on the road. MEC Rakgoale assured that the contractors are working tirelessly on the project, around the clock to create a safer environment for all.
Kobus Van Der Merwe, on behalf of the service provider, outlined that the work on the project includes filling of the embankment with engineering material for stabilization, repair and maintenance as well as usage of pockets or void-fill-grouting to ensure 100 percent safety.
The MEC implored the media to report correctly and accurately on the intervention the government has embarked on, and not cause fear and unnecessary panic to the motorists and other users.
“The safety of everyone is our apex priority. The bridge is safer for use, as explained by the engineers appointed. In the meantime, we engaged and agreed with Executive Mayor Minah Bahula and Elias Motsoaledi Municipality Mayor Tladi to ensure that in the interim and for the duration of the project, an interim alternative route is being sought, so that our community and the road users do not get frustrated,” said Rakgoale.
Executive Mayor Bahula appreciated the patience of communities in the three wards surrounding the bridge, and the leadership displayed by Kgoshi Rammupudu II. She indicated that she finds comfort in the arrangement to monitor and assess the situation 24hr a day.
