Bahula to be deployed new Executive Mayor of SDM
Sekhukhune
The African National Congress (ANC) Regional Executive Committee (REC) has resolved to the deployment of Cllr Minah Bahula as the new Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM).
The decision followed the resolution of the party’s REC virtual meeting held on Sunday 12 November, which agreed to embark on the processes of appointing mayors and deliberate action to deploy the best in expediting the provision of water to communities in Sekhukhuneland.
Bahula will follow on the footsteps of Maleke Mokganyetji who was recently removed by the party’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).
Sam Uwane, ANC Spokesperson in Sekhukhune Region, said the REC directed the Council Speaker of the district municipality to convene special council as soon as possible.
“The deployment of Cde Minah Bahula to Sekhukhune District Municipality will certainly affect the mayorship of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM). The ANC in the region concedes that the due processes for the appointment of the mayor in the municipality may demand a reasonable time and the void may negatively affect the good performing municipality,” said Uwane.
He said the REC resolved to appoint Merah Mahlase, who is Deputy Head of Infrastructure Development Services and the Coordinator of the ANC Women’s League Regional Task Team (RTT) in Sekhukhune as interim mayor of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) pending due processes.
Uwane said the meeting further expressed its appreciation of the unity, courage and discipline displayed during the by-elections held on the 8 November 2023 in Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality (EPMLM) Ward 1.
“The REC continues to applaud comrades who contributed to the decisive victory of the ANC. The REC re-affirmed its commitment to the work of the forthcoming 2024 National and Provincial elections and observed serious improvement from most of our election structures on the ground,” he said.
Furthermore, Uwane said the REC received the positive report on the purchasing of the last bakkie to be allocated to Ephraim Mogale Sub-region.
“All the four bakkies will be allocated to sub-regions by the end of November 2023. The REC received a report on the appointment of drivers for the four bakkies purchased as part of mobilizing resources for the elections and enhancing the capacity on the organization in conducting programmes,” explained Uwane.
He indicated that the REC had resolved to disband dysfunctional branches following an assessment of the functionality of branches in the region with clear understanding that dysfunctional branches will negatively affect the election work and the image of the organization in communities.
“The REC recommended to the PEC to disband the dysfunctional branches and the Branch Task Teams (BTT) were established. The branches that have been affected are in Fetakgomo Tubatse Sub-Region, Makhuduthamaga Sub-Region, Ephraim Mogale Sub-Region and Elias Motsoaledi Sub-Region,” he said.
Uwane said the REC directed the sub-regional secretaries to convene special Branch General Meetings (BGMs) to communicate the decision of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).
