DA Limpopo elects new leadership
Polokwane
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Limpopo has on Saturday 27 May 2023 elected a new provincial leadership during the party’s congress held at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane.
According to the DA, the leadership was elected with a mandate to steer the organization to greater heights ahead of the 2024 general government election.
During the election, which the party described as sound internal democratic processes, Lindy Wilson was emerged as Provincial Leader, Marie Helm elected Provincial Deputy Leader, Jacques Smalle elected Provincial Chairperson, Androe Botha elected First Provincial Deputy Chairpersons and Joseph Mariba as Second Deputy Chairperson.
Thelma Marole emerged as Provincial DA Women Network (DAWN) Chairperson, Maria Sepital elected Provincial DAWN Deputy Chairperson and Tiego Thotse elected Provincial DAY Chairperson
Addressing the congress, DA Federal Leader, John Steenhuisen, said he was impressed on how the congress practiced a democratic accountability during the conference.
“Limpopo is a great province having huge potential for tourism, economic growth and for job creation. It is just that government is uncaring and uninterested in its wellbeing. This can change next year and I have set up clearly why this next election give South Africans voters the best chance they have had post democracy to be able to remove the ANC and to put a government that is going to restore hope, growth and opportunity for all residents in Limpopo,” he said.
Steenhuisen insisted that the DA will make Limpopo a government that will be on the side of the people not only on the side of politicians.
“I believe that the DA together with other parties can build the vision of hope,” he said.
Steenhuisen also informed delegates about the importance of the formation of a Moonshot Pact, saying it will rescue South Africa and Limpopo from an ANC-EFF coalition.
The congress allowed delegates to participate in a vote on resolutions and constitutional amendments, while also allowing party members to chart a way forward up to the 2024 general elections.
