EFF march to demand better services
Groblersdal
Scores of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members, have on Friday 25 November, converged to Groblersdal Town to stage a march to hand-over a memorandum of their grievances to Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) and Lepelle Northern Water (LNW).
The disgruntled group, from all parts of SDM, was complaining about poor service delivery which includes lack of water supply and lack of proper sanitation.
Ali Maloba, EFF Chairperson in Sekhukhune Region, said they were marching to deliver a memorandum because SDM and LNW have decimally failed residents.
“A decade ago, both institutions promised to build dams and infrastructure for the people of Sekhukhune in which billions of rands were spent, however, the unfortunate part is that people of Sekhukhune still do not have water except in white communities where they have running water 24 hours,” he said.
Maloba added that they demand the removal of LNW from Sekhukhune Region, forensic investigations to be conducted and the recusal of AES Engineers and Rondeals 4 Company.
“The two consulting companies are rendering services to SDM and LNW and with 80% of their work being paid in full without being completed,” he said.
Maloba said they demand the suspension of all officials and politicians who were charged with corruption, as it is required by standing rules of the council.
“Our other demands include the rehabilitation of all sewage treatment in black townships such as Burgersfort, Motetema, Jane Furse, Leeuwfontein and Dennilton. We demand immediate intervention in the spillage happening in Steelpooort Complex that is overflowing to the road and the other one in Moutse Mall that is overflowing to Moses River. We want landlords who are responsible for those sewerage systems to be held accountable and charged accordingly,” explained Maloba.
Maloba furthered said the EFF demand forensic investigation to be conducted on all incomplete water bulk projects.
“We demand the release of the report of the double payment made by the district municipality to current security company in December 2021 and January 2022,” he said.
Maloba said SDM was given seven working days to respond to their memorandum. Khomotso Ndlovu, SDM Communications Manager, said Deputy MMC for Infrastructure in the municipality, Jan Mohlala has received the memorandum and the municipality will be responding to EFF complaints before the seven working days.
