Stats SA fieldworkers reach out to MLM household
Ga-Mashabela
The statistics South Africa (Stats SA) fieldworkers have reached out to the first citizens of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) mayor Cllr Minah Bahula in Ga Mashabela village on March 22.
The municipal spokesperson, Lemson Moropjane, said the MLM mayor was counted during the Stats SA’s census drive 2022.
Moropjane said census officials received warmth reception and cooperation at the Mayor’s household and embarked on a counting exercise.
“In the end, the Mayor thanked the Census team field workers and their senior officials for their esteemed professionalism. She has encouraged the team to carry their spirit by visiting all households to help improve grading of the municipality that’s determined by the population number,” explained Moropjane.
“The Census 2022 statistic results could have a positive influence towards a new municipal grading to be determined by the national government. We urge every household to cooperate and be counted. This can have a developmental impact and change the fortunes of this Municipality,” Mayor Bahula articulated the importance of being counted.
She said this exercise can influence the direction of the municipal grading to be moved from Grade 3 to 4, and that grants such as Equitable Shares (ES), Municipal Infrastructure Grand (MIG) and other budget allocations from National Treasury will be increased to deliver more meaningful services to the communities.
