Ramphelane Secondary School denied to enrol learner cited over age

Malegale

Malegale resident said she was disappointed when she was turned back by Ramphelane Secondary School principal when she wanted to register her grandchildren on Wednesday.

A granny said the principal said the school doesn’t enrol overage learners.

“We cannot accept her remove because she’s overage and her peers would be doing grade 12 this years,” said the principal.

She said her grandchild was staying with her parents in Polokwane and asked them if she could come and stay with her and they agreed.

“She is doing Grade 9 and I felt unhappy about the system or whatever they are using to decline our grandchildren,” she said.

Grandmother said she couldn’t believe her eyes but she had no choice but to return back to home.

According to a provincial employee in the department, the guidelines says over age learner should remain in their enrolled schools until completion.

Asked in case where parents have to relocate employee said the circuit should be contacted and intervened.

Attempts to get in touch with Schoonoord Circuit manager were fruitless.
