Contractor and engineer for R40 million road upgrade project handed over
MARALALENG – Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Nkakareng Rakgoale has on Monday, 18 September handed over a contractor and an engineer for the implementation of the R40 million road upgrading project in Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality within the Capricorn District at Maralaleng Community Hall.
The project is for the improvement of roads D4090, D4093, D4094 and D4096 Malemati which will be done in phases.
Rakgoale urged community stakeholders to cooperate with Roads Agency Limpopo for the smooth running of the initiative. The total length of the entire road network under design is 28.29km with the recorded breakdown.
Road D4090 commences at its intersection with Road D4070, in Seleteng Village, Ga-Mphahlele, traverses South, then West to end at its intersection with Road D4100, near Dithabaneng and Maralaleng villages.
Road D4093 starts at its intersection with Road D4090, where Road D4090 turns West and traverses South through Lekurung Village. Road D4094 begins where Road D4093 finishes, at the river crossing, traverses West to end at the North-eastern outskirt of Tjiane Village. Road D4096 commences where Road D4094 ends, traverses South through Tjiane Village, then West to end at its intersection with Road D40100, West of Tjiane Village.
Witness Tiva, DPWRI spokesperson, said during implementation period, the road project will make provision for the employment of local labourers.
Tiva indicated that the target earmarked for labour utilization is 10% of the tender sum amount. “It will further encourage the employment of SMMEs, where the contract also requires from the contractor, to make use of the available services of SMMEs as sub-contractors and suppliers on the project at 30% of the tender sum amount. The completion of the project will ensure that the roads are safer, that there is smooth traffic flow in all weather conditions and improved access for communities to essential services such as education, healthcare and shopping centres. Vehicles or transportation of goods and services will also experience lower operating costs,” stated Tiva.
