Leeuwfontein community prays for end to crime
LEEUWFONTEIN – Members of the community of Leeuwfontein outside Marble Hall, CPF structures and the Saps convened at the Leeuwfontein Community Hall on Wednesday to pray for an end to crime.
There has been a number of crime incidents in the community that made them to stand together and take the awareness route on the problem.
Hendrick Ngwenya, Marble Hall Community Policing Forum Board chairperson said the increase in crime in the area was giving them sleepless nights and the prayer was meant to conscientise the community members on the confrontation.
Ngwenya said they, as members of the municipality, cannot afford to fold arms and let criminals take control of the area.
“We have has serious incidents of crime in Leeuwfontein Township and the neighbouring RDP Section in which people were shot and killed. Now we need to stand together as one and say enough is enough against crime. There is just no way that we can allow for the entire community to live in fear of criminals. This prayer today will help raise an alarm to show criminal elements that they are not wanted here,” said Ngwenya.
The prayer also higher the problem of selling of expired food items by foreign-owned shops and indicated that also needed to be fought against as people are subjected to food poisoning from the practice.
Ngwenya informed that there has been an establishment of a committee to specifically deal with the matter.
A community member, Sidney Motsogi praised the prayer session and said it will go a long way in fighting crime confronting the community.
Motsogi appealed for such prayers to be hosted frequently so that people will realize how far deep crime is rooted in communities.
