EFF cleaning campaign targets Sekhukhune illegal dumping sites

Monsterlus

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Sekhukhune Region has unleashed a cleaning campaign, as an awareness to educate the public about the importance of a tidy environment.

The initiative, officially named Andries Tatane Clean-up Campaign, was launched on Saturday 4 March at Hlogotlou in Monsterlus outside Groblersdal.

Ali Maloba, EFF Chairperson in Sekhukhune Region, said the aim of the campaign is to remove waste to raise environmental protection awareness and to mobilize the community of Sekhukhune to become more environmentally conscious.

“As the party, we started the campaign because our Constitution guarantees the right of all South Africans to an environment that is not harmful to their health and well-being,” he said.

He said the programme is targeting to clean illegal dumping sites along the major roads in the district municipality.

“Our campaign is expected to run for 24 months to build consciousness amongst the general public. We want to get rid of littering, illegal dumping, pollution and other harmful activities that have ill effects on the natural environment, as well as the quality of life and health of our communities,” he said.

Maloba said the party has called on all municipalities including Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality, Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality, Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality and Sekhukhune District Municipality to come on board and play a part in ensuring a clean healthy environment.
