New SDM Executive Mayor re-deploys MMCs

Following her appointment as the new Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Cllr Maleke Mokganyetji decided to reshuffle her MMC cabinet.
Mokganyetji made the changes during her first Mayoral Committee meeting held on Wednesday 7 December 2022.
Khomotso Ndlovu, SDM Acting Communications Manager, said that the purpose of the mayoral
committee meeting was to align the version of the executive mayor together with the executive
committee to contribute effectively in providing services to the people of Sekhukhune district.
During the meeting, Cllr Bella Kupa was appointed MMC for Infrastructure and Water Services, Cllr Merriam Malatji appointed First Deputy MMC for Infrastructure and Water Services and Cllr Lizzy Lekoatsipa as Second Deputy for infrastructure and Water Services.
Mokganyetji furthered appointed Cllr Frank Ratau as MMC for Corporate Services and leader of Government Business, Cllr Kukie Sefala was announced MMC for Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Jan Mohlala appointed new MMC for Budget and Treasury and MMC for Planning and Economic Development portfolio was given to Cllr Baatseba Leshaba.
Cllr Samson Nkosi was appointed MMC for Women, Children and People with Disabilities and Orginia Mafefe was announced as new MMC for Community Services.
Mokgyanyetji ousted Stanley Ramaila from the cabinet, who was holding position of MMC for Community Services in the district municipality after he was demoted from the executive mayor’s position.
Mokganyetji said the objective of the Mayoral Committee meeting was to align the vision of the executive mayor, together with her executive committee to contribute efficiently and effectively in providing services to the people of the district.
Mokganyetji requested that a special focus be placed on the various departments including in the Infrastructure and Water Services, to fast track all water projects and communities be engaged on status of all water schemes in the district municipality.
“Non-spending, especially on capital grants will not be tolerated, since it is an injustice to the people of Sekhukhune,” she said.
The new executive mayor said other earmarked department is the Budget and Treasury Office that made commitment to pay service providers in time and within the 30 days of allocation.
She said the third department to be prioritized is the Planning and Economic Development, which will be linked between the youth, women and people with disabilities and local economic opportunities in the district.
Mokganyetji reiterated that a need for teamwork amongst the members of the Mayoral Committee is needed.
“I am part of you, you are part of me. The challenges we face are not new to us, we have resolved many and sort council on others, but I believe together with our collective wisdom, passion and hard work we can achieve our common objective of providing services to our people,” she said.
