Call for an end to stigmatization based on HIV/Aids status

JANE FURSE – Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality Mayor, Minah Bahula has called on communities to eradicate stigmatization of people living with HIV and Aids.

Bahula made the call during her local municipality’s World Aids Day commemoration event held at the RDP Park in Jane Furse on Wednesday, 07 December 2022 which followed Limpopo Premier, Chupu Mathabatha’s honour of the day at Ga-Mampuru Village within the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality.

Bahula said: “ we have recently launched the Local Aids Council whose strategic aims and objectives is to amongst others, deal with the overall  integrated plan on issues around the diseases and inculcate the culture of love for one another, irregardless of one’s HIV status. We are calling upon our communities to be vigilant at all times as the disease is still very much alive and infections are rapidly increasing.”

She added that the local Aids Council, which she chairs, would be rolling out programs that would include, embarking on a door-to-door drive to provide leadership and interventions on families, either affected or have their loved ones infected by HIV.

The local municipality observed the day under the theme: “Equalize and integrate to end Aids” to call all sundry into action for purposes of engagement in addressing the inequalities in communities in the management of HIV and Aids.

Solanga Mlambo, who co-chairs the Provincial Aids Council, Lawrence Sengwane, Chairperson of people living with HIV/Aids in Limpopo and several ambassadors, graced the vent with their attendance.
