MEC launches the Annual Phatse Justice Piitjo Soccer tourney
Ga-Masemola – MEC for Sports Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Nakedi Kekana has on Tuesday 6 December, officially launched the Second Annual Phatse Justice Piitjo (PJP) Soccer Tournament, in Ga-Masemola Village outside Jane Furse within Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality.
The tournament is a rural development project initiative by a prominent community leader who originates from Ga-Masemola Village, known as Ambassador Phatse Justice Piitjo.
Piitjo founded and first introduced the sporting event spectacle in Ga-Masemola, his home village in December 2021.
Justice Piitjo is a former Member of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) and has also served South Africa on diplomatic duties as the Ambassador to the Republic Cuba.
During the official lunch at Masemola Tribal Office, MEC Kekana and Ambassador Justice Piitjo, officially presented the FAW Truck manufacturing company as the official tournament sponsor for this season.
Kekana used the platform to call civil society to action as the country observes 16 Days of Activism of no violence against women and children.
MEC Kekana furthered called for the inclusion of persons with disabilities at recreational activities supported by the department.
The Mayor of Makhuduthamaga, Cllr Minah Bahula, said she supports the rural sports development initiative in the area.
The Chairman of PJP Tournament Committee, Mampholo Issac Masemola, announced that this year’s Phatse Justice Piitjo Soccer Tournament will support 16 participating local football clubs through the new sponsorship.
The games will kick start on the 16th December 2022 at the Apel Cross Sport Ground, with the organizers of the tournament targeting to attract over 500 young people from various parts of the local municipality and beyond.
The sponsorship handover event was also supported by MmagoKgoši Masemola and Masemola Royal Authority members, SABC Limpopo Regional Operations Manager Oupa Mamabolo as well as local ward councillor.
