MLM mayor handed out blanket to elderly persons

Ga-Masemola

The Mayor of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) Minah Bahula handed over blanket to elderly persons during the Mayoral Outreach programme in Ga-Masemola village, in ward 29 and 30 respectively.

According to municipal spokesperson Lemson Moropjane the older persons blanket drive is one of the important several special programmes administered by the Office of the Mayor amongst many.

Moropjane said Mayor Bahula gifted 70 year olds and above with blankets.

He said the beneficiaries were identified by ward committees.

Moropjane said the first old citizen to receive a blanket in Kolokotela area is Mamokiritle Boshielo (102) who couldn’t even hide her excitement when interacting with Mayor Bahula.

He said the eldest granny in Maraganeng area turning 108 this year is Kanyane Bapela.

“The Mayor encourages communities and neighbors to care for older persons and celebrate them as the living heritage of community development,” said Moropjane.

He said the mayor also appeals to everyone to speak out against Gender Based Violence (GBV) happening in households so as to eliminate and address the statistics of rape and murder cases meted against older persons in the community and people living with disabilities.

Mayor Bahula was flanked by the Chair of Chairs in council, Cllr Mampane MA, Ward 29 Cllr Kgatuke LD, Ward 30 Cllr Monakedi MJ and ward committee members.

The Mayoral outreach program covered areas such as Kolokotela, Setlaboswana, Mashwanyaneng, Pitšaneng and Maraganeng.

The marathon programme will now move to other Wards in the Municipality soon.
