Alleged goat thieves stoned and vehicle torched at Moroke.
MOROKE
Two people died when alleged goat thieves were stoned and their car torched at Moroke on September 29. The Police were called after some community members were seen chasing a motor vehicle all the way from Mafefe to Moroke.
“Preliminary investigations indicated that while the three suspects were trying to escape they knocked down a pedestrian and he died on the scene. The deceased was identified as Sekepe Kobeene aged 30 from Bothabothe Lesotho . Meanwhile Collen Keago (31) is the victim who was stoned to death while their vehicle was set alight. The two other men escaped by foot ,” said Limpopo SAPS spokesman Brig Motlafelo Mojapelo.
Following the incident, the provincial commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe warned of harsh consequences on anyone who takes the law into their own hands.
She urged people to report criminal acts to the police and let the law take its course instead of taking the law into their own hands. “Vigilantism will not be tolerated nor accepted as a way of dealing with crime,” she said.
“Anyone found to have participated in such acts, will be arrested and face the full might of the law.”
Anyone with information that may assist the SAPS in arresting the suspects should contact Detective Sergeant Jim Mophoso on 0824457724 or the crime stop number 0860010111
