Sekhukhune CPF structures commits to curb criminal activities

Jane Furse – The newly elected Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) Community Policing Forum (CPF) board members, vow to get involved in fighting crime with law enforcement to curb incidents such as recent waves of tavern shootings that gripped other parts of the country recently.

SDM CPF Board Secretary, Ali Ramoshaba, said the structure has drafted a 2022/2023 Programme of Action, which was implemented in cooperation with law enforcers to ensure safety of residents by reporting any criminal activities.

“The programme is part of initiative wherein, our structure is working with liquor outlets to avoid any occurrences of shooting that we are witnessing taking place in other part of the country,” he said.

Ramoshaba, who is also Public Relations Officer in the Limpopo Provincial CPF structure, said the action plan programme will be utilized in all established CPF structure including in the sub-forums in the villages, police station boards, district boards as far as in the provincial boards.

“The boards’ primary focus are to tackle issues of gender based violence, domestic violence, drug abuse, cable theft, school safety programmes and other criminal activities in general,” he said.

Ramoshaba said all CPF boards’ structures were requested to draft and submit a mini three months programme about their local liquor outlets operations.

“So that their local police stations will conduct outreach programmes to alert patrons about safety when they are in taverns and other drinking places to avoid being victims of recent shootings,” he said.

Ramoshaba said the objective of the district CPF board is to ensure that the programme is implemented at all levels and every after three months, the district board will seat and check if it bears any fruits or not.

“We also involved Sekhukhune Liquor Board and the police unit that deals with liquor licensing to run the programme in the province,” he said.
