SDA board disbanded
GROBLERSDAL – Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) council has resolved to disband the Sekhukhune Development Agency (SDA) board amid allegations of fraud.
Julia Mathebe, SDM Executive Mayor, said the board was disbanded because as council they detected that they were no longer interested in working for the people of Sekhukhune.
The disbandment of the board comes amid an investigation instituted into the dodgy payment of R460 000 recently to a service provider, a law firm.
Mayor Mathebe added that infighting by the members of the board further led to the decision for the disbandment.
Seun Mogotji, Bolsheviks Party of South Africa (BPSA) leader, said the board’s disbandment was long overdue as it did not show to have interests of the people of the district at heart.
Mogotji said they welcomed the decision to disband the board and added that they would as a party take the matter further as they have opened a case with the police.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, reportedly confirmed that a case of fraud was opened with the police on 03 June 2022 at the Polokwane Police Station.
The development agency, which is a subsidiary of SDM, was allocated R7,7 million during the district municipality’s budget allocation earlier this year. The SDA was established with the powers to partner with different role players and to act as an engine of economic growth through diversifying and expanding the Sekhukhune district’s economic base.
The agency is expected to constantly be in the process of initiating, identifying and implementing high impact economic projects that create sustainable job opportunities.
Its target market is communities living in the villages, townships and towns within the Sekhukhune district.
It focuses on youth, women, small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and cooperatives with the potential to get involved in high economic impact projects and initiatives.
