Police Constable turns gun on himself after fatally shooting two
SESHEGO – A Police Constable, stationed at Roedtan Police Station outside Marble Hall, allegedly shot a man and a woman before turning a gun on himself on Wednesday, 20 July afternoon at about 13:00 in Seshego Zone 3 outside Polokwane.
According police, the 27 year-old police Constable went to a rental apartment and reportedly found a woman believed to be his girlfriend in the company f another man.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the police constable then confronted the two and shot them dead before turning the gun on himself.
Mojapelo said all three were certified dead on the scene and that the policeman’s service pistol was found on the scene.
He further indicated that it was clear at that stage what prompted the incident but domestic related challenges could not be ruled out.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has urged police members to seek professional assistance when faced with relationship challenges.
“Our members are urged to make use of available internal helping professionals whose responsibility is to look after the employees’ health and wellness issues and desist from resorting to extreme violence when dealing with challenges,” concluded Hadebe.
The police have opened cases of two counts of murder and one count of inquest as investigations are continuing.
