MEC hands-over Bakwena Ba Matsepe Offices project

TAFELKOP: Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Dr Namane Dickson Masemola, said one of the key priorities of his department, is to ensure that traditional leadership in the province gets proper infrastructure.

Masemola was speaking during the official hand-over of a contractor who was appointed for the construction of the Bakwena Ba Matsepe Traditional Council Offices in Tafelkop Village outside Groblersdal.

The MEC handed-over the contractor to the traditional leadership last week Friday. The project will include new office building, a guard house, a pavement, a parking space and a borehole and is expected to be completed in 12 months.

According to the department, the project is in line with MEC Masemola’s promises, made during his budget speech held earlier this year, whereby, he indicated that one of the government’s commitments is to take affairs of traditional leaders seriously.

“As such matters relating to the building of traditional council offices are getting necessary attention, we are very serious and deliberate about retaining the prestige of institutions of royal leadership in the province,” he said.

Masemola said during the implementation of this 12 month project, about 25 people, from Tafelkop Village and surrounding places will benefit through working opportunities and some local businesses will also have opportunities to render business with the department through sub-contracts.

“This is part of the efforts of the provincial government to provide support to the leadership of royalty, restore and maintain their prestige and authority, but also to enable them to serve their communities better,” he said.

He said the same project were handed-over to various traditional leaderships including Bakone Ba Matlala Traditional Authority, Majeje Traditional Authority, Raphahlelo Traditional Authority, Manoke Traditional Authority, Davhana Traditional Authority and Bokone Traditional Authority.

“Equally, we will continue with the construction of Mogashoa Dithlakaneng Traditional Council Offices where progress is at 55%. We have completed the construction of Ditlou Machidi Traditional Council Offices,” he said.
