GA-MASEMOLA – Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor Julia Mathebe announced that the municipality was aware of difficulties people in the district faced.
Executive Mayor Mathabathe said that they fully understood the seriousness of water and sanitation service challenges the people of Sekhukhune were enduring.
Mathebe was speaking during the State of the District Address (SODA) held at Ga-Masemola Village last Wednesday, 13 April.
Mathebe committed that as the current administration, never to take for granted the trust the electorates in the district vested on them as the ANC.
She said that their major function as a district municipality was to provide water and sanitation services, along with emergency services.
Mathebe further said that they acknowledged that the pace of service delivery in Sekhukhune district was not pleasing.
“Fellow residents, in February when we accepted the responsibility to serve you, we committed to pursuing a sound, efficient, effective, transparent, and accountable administration. We recognize the importance of good governance and that without it, our municipality will not function properly to meet your needs,” said Mathebe.
She added that they were disappointed about the qualified audit opinion the district municipality obtained in the previous financial year.
Mathebe the municipality has instructed the municipal management team, working with the audit committee to attend to all issues raised by the Auditor General (AG).
“Management must meet every week to attend to all these issues raised by the AG and report progress to the mayoral committee every month,” said Mathebe.
She further said that the municipality would not tolerate corruption, fraud and maladministration and that those criminalities were the biggest enemies of the people of the district.
“They deny our people services which the democratic government seeks to provide them with,” emphasised Mathebe.
