Digital divide among learners bridged

UITVLUGT – Teaching and learning received a major boost recently at Rekhuditse Secondary School in Uitvlugt Village outside Marble Hall when government and telecommunications company, Cell C embarked on a drive to bridge the digital divide through availing gadgets to learners at the school.

The availing of the gadgets for learners at the school within Sekhukhune district’s Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality is in pursuance of making information readily available.

The telecommunications company donated a computer laboratory, which was on Wednesday 23 March unveiled by Limpopo MEC of Education, Polly Boshielo, Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Julia Lata Mathebe and Mayor of Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality, Given Moimane as well as an executive from Cell C, Joshua Moela.

Meanwhile, Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Budget & Treasury at Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Maleke Mokganyetji recently during a graduation ceremony, conferred certificates on 30 graduates who were trained in plumbing and artisanship.

According to the district municipality that group of young people, was trained for 18 months at the Sekhukhune TVET College, through a partnership between the National Youth Development Agency, the SDM and the Collins Chabane School of Artisans.

The district municipality said all of those young people came from within the Sekhukhune district, and MMC Mokganyetji lauded the fact that among them were young women.

“For their practicals, they were placed in the SDM’s Water Treatment Plants and depots, to acquire work experience,” said the district municipality.

MMC Mokganyetji called on the private sector to hire those graduates, but also she encouraged them (graduates) to consider founding their small businesses now that they’ve been empowered with skills.
