Search for occupants starts, after vehicles were swept by water
STEELPOORT
The Limpopo Transport and Community safety department has confirmed that a search for the occupants of two vehicles that were swept off at Dwars River on Tuesday has resumed.
Speaking to the Sekhukhune Times, departmental spokesperson Mike Maringa said motorists are advised not to attempt crossing low lying bridges and flooded roads following the warning of flash floods by the Weather Services.
“Two vehicles, a Kombi and a Sedan were swept by flood when they attempted to cross a bridge covered with water next to Thorncliffe Mine in Sekhukhune around the Steelpoort area on Tuesday afternoon.”
A photo of the taxi went viral showing how badly the taxi is.
Maringa added, “The vehicles were later recovered at the riverbank and at this stage, all the occupants are still missing. The search for the occupants from the two vehicles started on Wednesday morning.”
The Steelpoort area recorded heavy rainfalls in the past three days, prior to the incident. Sekhukhune Times will keep readers updated on this incident.
