Refurbished water pipeline commissioned

LEBOWAKGOMO – The refurbished Specon water pipeline replacement phase 2 project at Mamaolo Village within the Capricorn District Municipality has recently been commissioned.

According to Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) the Specon water pipeline is a critical part of the conveyance system of the Olifantspoort Water Scheme.

LNW said from the Olifantspoort Water Treatment Works, water is conveyed by a pumping station to the command reservoir, Specon reservoir which is in located in Lebowakgomo Township.

It said that Specon pipeline was an 800 mm steel pipeline stretching over 26km from the plant to the command reservoir.

“However, the most critical part of the pipeline identified during the earlier pipeline condition assessment is a 9.4 km portion from Mamaolo to the Specon reservoir,” informed LNW.

The commissioning event was graced by Executive Mayor of Capricorn Mamedupi Teffo, Lepelle Nkumpi Local Mayor, Marriam Molala, Polkwane Executive Mayor, Makoro Mpe, LNW board management, traditional leadership of Mphahlele, other dignitaries and members of the community.

Executive Mayor Teffo, speaking on behalf of Limpopo Premier Chupu Mathabatha, said the commissioning of the pipeline was part of their effort to grow and build the Limpopo they wanted.

Teffo added that would come as a huge relief to their capital city, Polokwane which was also expected to benefit from the pipeline.

“I know that almost 80 other villages in Capricorn and Sekhukhune will equally benefit from the commissioning of this pipeline. This is indeed a good story to tell,” she said.

Teffo also indicated the importance of water provision to communities, the need for integration of spheres of government and NGOs in the implementation of the District Development Model and the role water plays towards investors.
