Sekhukhune commemorates Heritage Day
GROBLERSDAL – The Groblersdal Agricultural Hall outside Groblersdal was abuzz with cultural activity as part of the Heritage Day commemorations that grabbed the country on Friday, 24 September 2021.
Mphela and Associates Attorneys joined by Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) ensured the success of the commemoration through strict COVID-19 regulations adherence.
Mphela and Associates Attorneys’ Maditsi Mphela encouraged parents to ensure that they embraced African languages on their children to ensure the preservation of the country’s heritage.
Mphela further cited on rampant incidents of Gender-Based Violence that mar the country and encouraged for all to unite against the pandemic crippling the nation.
He challenged government to give traditional leaders space to play their role in shaping the communities that are rich in cultural adherence.
Kgoshi Rammupudu, Boleu II, called for the preservation of culture, values, norms and tradition among communities.
Rammupudu said parents needed to ensure that their children knew who they were, where they came from and possible future prospects.
Kgoshi Malesela Dikgale, Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders Chairperson, concurred with Kgoshi Rammupudu on communities to work hard in ensuring that culture is preserved.
Dikgale said it was the responsibility of communities to flight the South African culture, values, norms and tradition.
“If we stick to our culture, values, norms and tradition our nation stands to prosper over all ills that we experience in our society,” concluded Dikgale.
SDM Executive Mayor, Stanley Ramaila, discouraged apartheid system’s oppression of the black people’s culture over white culture and called on communities to take pride of their own and bring up their children in that manner.
Ramaila further thanked Mphela and Associates Attorneys for ensuring that Heritage Day was commemorated annually in the district and called on other businesses to come on board through their social responsibility programs to grow the celebrations bigger.
Ramaila lambasted Gender-Based Violence that continue to rear its ugly head in the society and appealed to men to change their abusive nature.
He further called on residents to get vaccinated in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 which has claimed lives of many people since it hit.
