Woman arrested in connection with husband’s murder
GROBLERSDAL – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of a 26 year-old woman on Thursday, 12 August for her alleged involvement in the murder of her husband on 04 October last year at a farm outside Groblersdal.
Police said what was initially thought to be a farm attack was unearthed by rigorous investigations as an alleged blatant and orchestrated murder of a 36 year-old man.
They say police investigations brought to light the allegation that the suspect and her female companion conspired to murder her husband in an incident in which the victim was shot and killed in the manner that the suspects reportedly made it look like a farm attack.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said that as investigations went on, a 23 year-old female suspect, Particia Lee Smith, who was reportedly a girlfriend of the 26 year-old suspect was then arrested on 27 October 2020 and later released on bail.
Mojapelo said it was also alleged that the deceased’s wife attempted to kill him on 9 May last year by poisoning his food. The victim was admitted to hospital and later discharged.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Groblersdal Magistrates Court facing charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.
Lieutenant General Hadebe applauded the investigating team for potentially uncovering what might have happened during the incident and ensuring that the involved suspects were arrested.
