Language enthusiast aims to empower communities

MOTETEMA– The 30 year-old Daniel Matsepe Mohlala, a B.com graduate of the University of Limpopo and a second year UNISA student studying a Bachelor of Arts degree, has embarked on a tutoring programme to instill, develop and promote the culture of learning and studying in communities.

The 30 year-old from Motetema’s Shushumela section outside Groblersdal is registered with blaq Ink, a multimedia and tutoring services company and he tutors Sepedi, English, EMS, Social Sciences and Life Skills among other offerings.

Matsepe Mohlala says as blaq Ink is still in its infancy stages, the tutoring services are only offered for Grade 4 to p. However, English and Sepedi sessions extend to Grade 12.

He says it was after the scourging unemployment and the desire to increase his employability chances that he decided to follow his passion for African languages.

Matsepe Mohlala is also a poet who saw his poems published in Sol Platjiee European Anthology Vol 8. To better equip and develop his skills as a writer/poet, he studied Theory of Literature modules and poetry and discourse analysis in English and Sepedi.

“It must be said that translation is also my passion and also study Linguistics in my current degree. I affirm that I will translate government text in the future and serve PANsalb, the Department of Arts and Culture and become a university professor wherein I will offer Sepedi Language on a part time basis. Other than Dan being language enthusiast, writer and academic, he is a man f God, a football coach and an athlete who runs his own race,” said Matsepe Mohlala.

The 30 year-old language enthusiast says he does all of work with the thought of community development.

“We have noticed deteriorating status of public education, as evidenced by the closure of some public schools and poor pass rates and the demise of sports in public schools. This means that private education will be more in demand. Now the vision of blaq Ink is to bridge the gap by offering high quality education at a reasonable cost,” smiled Matsepe Mohlala.

He called out for sponsors and mentors to who could help him establish his vision, coaches who can help register a football academy, educators who will share their experience, libraries and schools that would donate books, pastors who would help with prayers and the wise for advice and counseling to partake in the project.
