Over 1200 suspects nabbed over the Easter Weekend

SEKHUKHUNE – The simultaneous Intelligence driven joint operations conducted during the Easter Weekend in all districts of the province resulted in the arrest of 1298 suspects.

The suspects aged between 19 and 43 were apprehended for various offences ranging from murder, robberies, rape, sexual offences to possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition among other serious crimes.

The operations, comprised of members of SAPS from various units, were conducted through roadblocks, stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects and intensive patrols.

Firearms, suspected stolen or hijacked motor vehicles, cellphones, counterfeit cigarettes, dagga, drugs among others were confiscated during the arrests.

A total number of 2454 fines were issued for contravention of the Road Traffic Act, 20 shebeens were closed while 169 suspects were nabbed for the contravention of the Disaster Management Act.

Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, SAPS Provincial Commissioner, welcomed the arrests that the police achieved during the operations conducted across the province.

Ledwaba said the successes were a manifestation that the members were truly dedicated to their duties of keeping the citizens of Limpopo safe at all times.

The origins of the recovered items during the arrests will be determined by the ongoing police investigations.

The arrested suspects have started appearing before different Magistrates Courts on various offences throughout the province.
