Storm water drain create flood danger

Groblersdal

Despite reported unsafe and broken electricity box in Hereford Street opposite Ackerman’s clothing shop in Groblersdal, the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) has not fixed it and the box is still widely open.

Groblersdal residents said broken electricity box put their lives on danger.

“The electricity box is still not fixed and we contacted Eskom to repair it but they said its responsibility of the municipality.

“We implored the municipality again and this time they said equipments were ordered but till to date nothing has happened,” said Groblersdal resident, Jaco Odendaal.

He also said most of Groblersdal main drain holes are in bad conditions and some are broken but the local municipality has no answers on when it will get fixed.

He said numerous drains were clogged, which let water bang on roads damage the roads unnecessary.

“The town is now a flood danger,” he said

Odendaal further said several local drains magnet damages have also been stolen, which poses a risk to motorists and pedestrians.

“Several storm water drains now serve as hiding place for rubble, while the catchy pitchers in the older portions of town were wrongly leaked,” said Odendaal.

He said the EMLM should use infrastructure budget to channel the flow of storm water in particular directions, so as to that it does not affect the road.

“It is the municipality duty to see storm water drains and magnets being secured,” he explained.
