Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) has intensified their efforts to entrench a culture of ethical conduct and good governance, following an Ethics, Anti-Fraud and Corruption Workshop, coupled with an Insurance Workshop, held for municipal employees on Monday 31 August 2026.
The workshop, convened at SDM headquarters in Groblersdal, aimed at strengthening awareness around ethical conduct, accountability and responsible behaviour in the workplace.
In a reflective engagement, employees were taken through how the perception of the human mind, personal values and moral principles influence decision-making and conduct in the public sector.
During the programme, the municipality stressed the importance of adhering to the Municipal Code of Conduct and upholding the highest standards of integrity when executing responsibilities as public servants.
Key areas unpacked during the session included the Local Government Anti-Corruption Strategy, leadership skills, performance agreements and disclosure of business interests.
The municipality emphasized that preventing fraud and corruption is not solely the responsibility of Management or the Risk Management Office, but a collective responsibility that requires “every employee to act honestly, transparently and in the best interests of the municipality and the communities it serves.”
Proper disclosure of business interests and avoiding conflicts of interest were also highlighted as critical measures to promote transparency and protect the integrity of municipal processes.
Employees were further encouraged to take ownership of ethical conduct and become active custodians of good governance by making responsible decisions, protecting municipal resources and reporting suspected fraudulent or corrupt activities through the appropriate channels.
The workshop was addressed by key officials, including Ms Mamphsika and Ms Maluleke from the Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), as well as Mr M. Mahlase from the Office of the Premier in Limpopo.
The Sekhukhune District Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening an ethical organisational culture where integrity is understood not only as a requirement of public service, but as a personal responsibility that contributes to better governance and improved service delivery.
