Bahula intervenes in Praktiseer water challenges
PRAKTISEER
Residents of Ward 13 in Praktiseer, located northwest of Burgersfort Town and its extensions, have welcomed the intervention by the Sekhukhune District Municipality led by Executive Mayor, Cllr Minah Bahula, aimed at addressing ongoing water provision challenges in the area.
On March 16, the Executive Mayor convened a technical committee meeting at the Tubatse Regional Office before addressing residents . The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, Cllr Eddie Maila, Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs), ward councillors, from neighbouring wards, providing a platform for residents’ concerns to be heard and discussed.
Following engagements, the meeting adopted several key resolutions aimed at improving water supply in the affected communities.
-These included the establishment of a Task Team to identify immediate interventions (“quick wins”) to improve water provision.
– Intensifying public awareness campaigns on water-related matters, particularly illegal water connections, which the Executive Mayor described as “our biggest enemy” that deprives communities of vital water resources.
– The repair and equipping of existing boreholes to provide short-term relief to affected residents.
– The repair of the damaged bulk pipeline from Praktiseer to the nearby Ramaube concrete reservoir.
The Task Team will also comprise ward councillors and senior municipal officials to ensure coordinated implementation of the agreed interventions. The Executive Mayor further committed to fast-tracking the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sekhukhune District Municipality and Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality.
This agreement will enable the local municipality to undertake the repair and maintenance of water infrastructure and the construction of boreholes independently.
