R25 Road in shambles, motorists demand urgent repairs
DENNILTON
Concerns are mounting from residents of Dennilton in Moutse about the poor conditions of the R25 Road, which has become a major worry for motorists in the area about the increasing number of accidents caused by deteriorating state of the road.
The road links Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Gauteng Provinces and according to resident it has been in a very bad state for the past 25 years.
In the last few years the Mpumalanga and Gauteng stretches of the R25 were rehabilitated which improved mobility in the two provinces, however, only the Limpopo part of the road never gets attention of authorities and continue to deteriorate, marked by potholes and dongas everywhere which poses danger to motorists.
Two years ago, the Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL), committed to upgrade the R25 Road to a better condition. However, the agency could not fulfil their promise.
Seun Mogotji, Bolsheviks Party of South Africa (BPSA) Leader, blames the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure for continue to ignore passionate pleas make by communities appealing for the maintenance of the R25 Road and the D1399 Road, which stretches from Elandsdoorn in Dennilton to the N11 Road between Loskop and Groblersdal.
“Some major work is required on those two roads but new MEC for roads and his department couldn’t be bothered. The R25 was last serviced during the apartheid era. The culverts are blocked and the potholes can swallow a whole car. I am talking about a major road that connects three provinces Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo but it is been left to deteriorate,” he said.
Mogotji indicated that it is unashamedly that the same government leaders want the people of Moutse to vote for them during elections while they do nothing to improve services in the area.
“The sad part is that there are locals who are helping them in this plot to just take the votes and disappear until the next elections,” he said.
At the time of going to press, RAL Spokesperson, Danny Legodi, could not respond to the enquiries sent by the publication.
