MOLEPANE
Resident of Molepane Village outside Jane Furse in Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM), have recently embarked on a voluntary cleaning service campaign at Molepane Mobile Clinic.
The cleaning service campaign was a community-led initiative, aimed at promoting a healthy working environment for healthcare professionals and patients at the local mobile clinic premises. A total of 35 locals took part in the cleaning programme.
Cleaning programme Coordinator, Lloyd Mankge, told the paper that they initiated the cleaning activity after December holidays when they observed that the clinic had not been properly maintained, which compromised the health and safety of both the healthcare workers and the community they serve.
“We initiated the cleaning service campaign to address this issue and ensure that the clinic provides a clean and safe environment for everyone,” he said.
Mankge indicated that the campaign involved a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the clinic premises, including waste removal and disposal, clearing out trash and disposing of it properly, surface cleaning and disinfection, cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces, including floors, walls, and equipment.
“Other services rendered by the volunteers included the organizing and de-cluttering storage areas and workspaces. Cleaning up the surrounding gardens and landscaping,” he said.
Mankge said they believe that the cleaning service campaign had numerous benefits for the clinic, nurses, staff and the community, by improving health and safety through a clean and safe environment that reduces the risk of infections and illnesses.
“Through the initiative, we are also aiming to enhance a clean and organized workspace which improves the morale and productivity of healthcare workers. We believe that a clean and welcoming environment improves the overall patient experience,” he said.
Mankge said the campaign also played a role to foster a community engagement and ownership, promoting a sense of responsibility for the clinic’s maintenance.
“The cleaning service campaign had a positive impact on the community, demonstrating the importance of community-led initiatives in promoting health and well-being. The campaign also fosters a partnerships between community members, healthcare workers, and local authorities,” he said.
Mankge extended sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in the campaign.
“Their selflessness, dedication, and hard work were truly inspiring. Their contributions, big or small, made a significant difference in creating a clean and welcoming environment for our community,” he said.
