Maila launch electricity project for more than 1000 households

Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) ‘s mayor Eddie Maila has reiterated his commitment to accelerating services within the municipality. Maila was speaking during the launch of two electrification projects at Ga Nkwana and Apel villages (Mankotsane) on December 9.
The two villages are in the municipality’s Ward 36.
The mayor paid courtesy visits to the tribal houses of Baroka ba Nkwana and Tau Mankotsane to solicit support in safeguarding the projects on behalf of the municipality on December 9.
He was accompanied by members of the Executive Committee, ward councilors, ward committees, engineers and the contractor.
The two tribal authorities have committed to Maila that they will work together with all stakeholders to ensure that the projects are completed within scheduled time to enable the households to be energised.
A total of 800 houses will be electrified at Ga Nkwana, Mashung and 375 more houses will be electrified at Nkwana, New Stands. These projects will see more than 50 locals getting job opportunities.
Maila warned about elements delaying the projects, he said they will be subjected to due processes as the communities are awaiting for development.
The mayor has urged the appointed contractor (Reliant Contractor) to empower the local communities in terms of employment and business opportunities through transparent processes.
In his address to the community at Tau Mankotsane hall, Maila made a call to the communities to desist from a tendency of disrupting projects as a means of resolving disputes.
“There are processes in place to address such issues and the Office of the Mayor is available for engagements. The projects will bring improvements in the community as the lives of the beneficiaries will change. Criminal elements will be reduced and learning will be enhanced as learners will study in a conducive environment.”
He added, “The two projects are funded through Conditional grants and the municipality cannot afford to see withdrawal of funds due to non-spending.”
The two projects are expected to be finalised within a period of 6 months . The main contractor, Victor Mashava of Reliant also promised to deliver top-notch and quality work at the sites.
He also pleaded for support from communities .
The tribal authorities and members of the community were on cloud nine after the project launch. They urged the FTLM to continue accelerating services in the communities.
Maria Phasha, a resident, said the completion of the electrification project will improve matric pass rate at local schools in their village of Ga Mankotsane.
“No more dry foods, this will enable us to cut costs. It is a big challenge to live without electricity. We are happy that the FTLM has listened to our needs.”
These two projects, follows the Magabe Park electrification project in Ward 30. The project is 90% percent complete. The mayor once again pleaded for support from communities in transforming Fetakgomo Tubatse into a city.
