DSAC ignites Mapungubwe Cultural Festival fever

The Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), has on Saturday 26 October 2024, engaged in vibrant build-up programmes to promote the up-coming 2024 Mapungubwe Arts Festival, which is billed to take place at the Polokwane Cricket Club on Saturday 14 December 2024.

The lead-up to the festival programmes have seen hundreds of people converging at different venues in Capricorn, Mopani and Vhembe District Municipalities, to witness the build-up activities of the highly anticipated 2024 Mapungubwe Arts Festival.   

The festival build-up kicked off with numerous events, featuring performances by local traditional groups, poetry, film, comedy and theatre. This colourful procession highlighted the province’s diversity and unity through its array of cultural displays.

The build-up programmes also highlighted the unity and diversity of the province, thus, contributing to the colourful and festive atmosphere.

The Mapungubwe Cultural Festival is a flagship project of the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), celebrating the rich heritage and traditions of the province.

The cultural event is bringing vibrant performances, cultural showcases and art exhibitions, while highlighting the rich heritage of the province through celebrations of local music, dance, crafts and visual arts, also providing a platform for artists in province.

The festival highlights features cultural exchange initiatives with an aim to deepen the exchange of cultural programmes with the province’s invitation to other nations out of Limpopo.

A key event of the day is the music festival, which brings together diverse musical performances from Limpopo and beyond.

The festival features 95% local talent, aiming in promoting the creative and cultural industry of Limpopo Province.

According to the organisers, the festival not only honours the historic Mapungubwe civilization, but it also promotes community pride and tourism in the province.

The cultural event is regarded as a vibrant melting pot of cultures, fostering social cohesion and nation-building in Limpopo Province.
