Family still awaits dream house from FTLM.
GA MANOKE
The Mabelane family in Ga Manoke is still eagerly waiting for an RDP house promised to them by the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM). The promise was made 17 months ago.
This needy family was seen on social media platforms back in 2023. They were struggling to make ends meet.
The family stay in a dilapidated shack, the floors are unplastered and there are no window glasses. With summer rains upon us, this family seems to be in danger, their home is unsafe.
No one is working in the family, including the homeowner, Mary Mabelane, her 4 children and 2 grandchildren.
On 19 April 2023, FTLM mayor Eddie Maila visited this family to get first hand information about their challenges. This was after the mayor learnt of their challenges.
After the visit, the FTLM indicated on its Facebook page that they will assist where possible to restore dignity of the family.
During a recent visit to the Mabelane family, it was discovered that nothing has been done since the April 19 visit. Mabelane said she first applied for an RDP house in 2015.
“I saw people who had decent homes being erected RDP houses while I was ignored.”
Asked about the mayor’s visit to her home. Mabelane said she is still awaiting for building materials to be delivered to her home.
“They came to my shack. Took pictures and never came back. I was told an RDP house was on the pipeline for me. It’s almost two years since they promised to assist,” alleged the mother.
Disappointed with the FTLM and Limpopo government she pleaded for Good Samaritans to assist her with shelter.
“I am now pleading with local businesses, Good Samaritans, FTLM and any other person willing to help me in my quest to have a decent home.”
This publication failed in its attempts to get a comment from the FTLM. Queries posed to the municipality’s communications team were unanswered at the time of going to press.
