Makhuduthamaga lambasts social media allegations against Councillor Diketane
GA-MASHABELA – Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality has poured cold water over claims it described as baseless that are circulating on social media platforms alleging that one of its councilors, Paul Diketane, was involved in soliciting “a share” in a R32 million school project.
Thomas Mashabela, MLM spokesperson, said the allegations asserted that Councillor Diketane presented himself as an ex-officio of the planned project, thereby claiming a share from the project earmarked for Nkgonyeletše Secondary School at Ga-Mashabela Village.
Mashabela stated, “At no stage has Councillor Diketane approached any contractor or the School Governing Body, nor has he presented or formulated any Project Steering Committee to the Royal House, as alleged,” said Mashabela.
He highlighted that it is customary for a Ward Councillor to be part of any community developmental project. “However, this does not involve soliciting personal benefits or ‘shares’ in the project,” expressed Mashabela.
Mashabela further committed that the municipality remains resolute to collaborating with all stakeholders within its jurisdiction. “We encourage all parties involved to work together towards the successful realization of the planned project,” concluded Mashabela in a press statement issued on 18 September.
