Borehole contractors introduced to traditional authorities

GA-NCHABELENG/PHAAHA MANOGE/GA-RADINGWANA – Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor, Minah Bahula, continued her borehole initiative at traditional authorities within the district on Tuesday and Wednesday in an effort to address water provision challenges faced by numerous communities.

Executive Mayor Bahula introduced contractors for the borehole programme to the Tau Mankotsana, Roka Lebea, Tau Phaahlamohlaka and Roka Radingwana traditional authorities on Tuesday, 17 September.

The programme aligns with Bahula’s commitment to avail boreholes to the 84 traditional leaders in the district, which she made during her State of the District Address.

After the district noted problems with most of its water schemes that need long-term solutions, it resorted to drilling boreholes as a mid-term solution and provision of water through water tinkering system as a short-term measure.

At the beginning of July, the municipality had drilled and equipped 44 boreholes for the entire Sekhukhune district.

It had handed over seven completed borehole water projects at the time in various villages. The Tau Mankotsana Traditional Authority in Ga-Nchabeleng Village expressed gratitude for the local government’s gesture to help alleviate their water challenges.

The traditional authority undertook to work closely with the contractor, Bogoshi Magoshi Trading Project, to ensure the success of the project.

Mabatane Mathale, SDM MMC for Water and Infrastructure Services, encouraged the contractor to complete the project in a timeframe of less than a month.

The Babina Tlou Ba Seroka Traditional Authority in Ga-Seroka Village also praised the district municipality for introducing to them the contractor for the borehole initiative.

Kgoshigadi Seroka, Nareadi ‘A’ Bauba, said, “We are indeed happy that the executive mayor kept to her promise of coming back to the community after the recent elections. We can now see that she stands by her word and delivers on her promises.”

Bahula emphasized on the working relations between government and traditional authorities. “As the district we are committed to addressing the water challenges in our communities,” Bahula remarked.

She further encouraged the communities to use sparingly every drop of water they receive. On Wednesday, 18 September, Bahula extended the programme to handover contractors for the borehole initiative to Bahlakwana ba ga Malekana and Roka Phasha Phokwane traditional authorities.

She further inspected old boreholes in Mareseleng and Ga-Mashamothane villages, Ward 6 and 24 respectively.
