SAPS arrest five men during Operation Vala Umgodi

Limpopo SAPS continues to succeed in Operation Vala Umgodi. The men and women in blue, in partnership with various components and units, and SANDF
conducted an intelligence-driven operation on August 12, that resulted in the apprehension of five suspects aged between 33 and 43 for illegal mining and contravention of Immigration Act. The arrest was made at Atok.
The team approached the illegal mining site at Atok in Apel policing area and found the suspects still busy illegally mining chrome.
Limpopo SAPS commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the team for working extra hard.
The arrested suspects will soon appear before Sekhukhune magisterial court facing charges of illegal immigration and illegal mining of chrome.
Items such as drilling bits, jack hammers, shovels were seized by the SAPS.
Hadebe said SAPS teams are hard at work in all the five districts of Limpopo to ensure that illegal mining of precious minerals and sand becomes a thing of the past.
