New ANC Councillors sworn in
GROBLERSDAL/GA-BOTHA – New African National Congress (ANC) Councillors for both Sekhukhune District and Makhuduthamaga local municipalities, Lesedi Phiona Maile and Hudson Mashoeshoe respectively have been sworn in at the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, with Ally Matlala returning to the Makhuduthamaga Council.
The ANC Regional Executive Committee (REC) members, led by Regional Secretary, Tala Mathope, alongside Sekhukhune District Municipality Council Speaker, Kgwediebotse Chego and Chief Whip Aaron Machipa, ushered the new councilors.
They will be joining fellow ANC counterparts in the councils to champion the manifesto of the party. Mathope encouraged the newly sworn in councillors to hit the ground running and add value to the productive teams in their respective municipalities.
Meanwhile, the regional secretary and Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality Mayor, Given Moimana, attended a community meeting with Ward 2 Councillor, Papanini Thobejane, at Uitvlught Community Hall in Ga-Botha last Thursday.
During the community meeting, Mathope said, “This thing of stopping projects in the name of forums and concern groups must come to an end. When a project stops, as the community, you have every right to know why and you must not allow personal interests to disturb service delivery. When there’s a project in the community, you must be the security as the community. People stopping the projects are not from outside the village, it’s your own friends, brothers, cousins and children. Your councillor presented a report and there were engagements. He calls meetings, updates with governance and service delivery issues. He is available for community issues and is trying his best. I will rate him 8/10 because I can see he is working,”
Mathope assigned the ANCYL in the region to assist a young girl who has passed her matric and is struggling with applications to tertiary institutions.
The community raised concerns about the treatment they receive from the local ambulance station. Mathope called for intervention in that regard and senior personnel in the field promised to address the issue to get people working at the station to put the Batho Pele Principle into action.
He further called for the MMC responsible for Water, Infrastructure and Sanitation in Sekhukhune district to visit the area and look into the issue of boreholes and water systems to allow community members access to running water.
