Annual Hanglip 54 Golf Tournament held

Londola Traders, a prominent 100% black-owned company deeply integrated into community projects, has on Thursday 4 July and Friday 5 July hosted the 31st Annual Hanglip 54 Golf Tournament at Soutpansberg Golf Club. Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) partnered with the event which brought in a number of golfers from many parts of the country.
The tournament, an integral part of Makhado’s cultural calendar, aims to attract visitors to experience the charm of the town and its renowned golfing facilities.
The premier event showcased the scenic beauty and competitive spirit of Soutpansberg Golf Club, which nestled at the base of the picturesque Soutpansberg Mountain, renowned for its exceptional 9-hole course featuring bent grass greens and kikuyu fairways.
The tournament boasted a Par 72 layout spanning 6,254 meters for men and 5,337 meters for ladies, offered a comprehensive facilities to cater to every golfer’s needs.
As part of its community focused initiatives, Soutpansberg Golf Club has historically supported various developmental programs, including fundraising events for schools, churches, and charity organizations. Despite financial challenges, the club has nurtured exceptional talent, with members like Jay van der Walt and Tiger Musandiwa making significant strides in the golfing world.
The Hanglip 54 Golf Tournament stands as a testament to Makhado’s vibrant golfing community and the collaborative efforts of Londola Traders, Soutpansberg Golf Club, and esteemed partners like LTA.
LTA CEO, Moses Ngobeni, said: “We are indeed thrilled to partner with Soutpansberg Golf Club and Londola Traders for this great golf event in this part of the province. Hanglip 54 Golf Tournament has been there over thirty-one years and has grown in bounds to be where it is to date. It is further heartening to indicate that this municipality is known for various activities during this period. These include Kremetart Cycle Race taking place every June, as well as Makhado Tourism Exhibition taking place at Makhado Crossing Mall on the 6th July 2024,” he said.
Ngobeni said the agency is annually partnering with all these events and this year was not an exception as they want to contribute positively to the growth of tourism in this municipality.
“With these events, I have no doubt in my mind that the economy of the municipality and that of the province will be injected while accommodation is reported to be full,” he said.
Soutpansberg Golf Club has stated as entity playing a pivotal role in promoting golfing excellence in the province and committed to community integration, social cohesion and youth development.
