Ga-Maila/Mohlaletsi

The Police in Sekhukhune have arrested three male suspects, aged between 39 and 40, in connection with the murder of a 38-year-old man who was killed on Tuesday 25 June 2024 around 01:30 at Ga-Maila Segolo.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said according to the information received by the police, the victim and his brother had an altercation during the day, after which the brother left to summon other relatives who are his cousins.

“The victim was asleep when the three returned. They entered his room, dragged him outside, assaulted him with sticks, stones, bricks and bottles, took him back to his bedroom, and covered him with blankets. The suspects then fled the scene,” explained Ledwaba.

He said the victim’s father witnessed the incident and proceeded to the neighbours for assistance.

“Emergency Medical Personnel Service was called and the victim was certified dead at the scene. The motive behind the incident is unknown at this stage. Domestic violence cannot be ruled out,” Ledwaba said.

He said the trio was arrested and will appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of murder.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo, condemned the incident and called upon families to get professional help when experiencing domestic challenges, rather than resorting to violence.

Meanwhile the Police in Apel have arrested a 46-year-old male suspect in connection with the murder of his 49-year-old relative. The murder incident occurred on Thursday 20 June 2024 at Mohlaletse Village in Apel area.

Ledwaba said the arrest was effected on Tuesday morning, 25 June after the suspect handed himself to the local police.

“According to preliminary reports, the suspect confronted the victim at his residence, accusing him of stealing personal belongings. An argument ensued, escalating into a physical altercation. It is alleged that during the confrontation, the suspect fatally injured the victim,” explained Ledwaba.

He added that upon receiving a report of the incident, the police swiftly responded to the incident and commenced with initial investigations.

“The suspect was charged with murder and will appear before Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court soon. The identity of the deceased will be released pending further police investigation. Police investigations are still ongoing,” said Ledwaba.

Once again, Police Provincial Commissioner in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Hadebe, emphasised the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and urged community members to seek assistance from law enforcement rather than resorting to violence.
