EMLM Mayor’s social media accounts hacked

GROBLERSDAL – The Facebook and WhatsAPP accounts of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) Mayor, David Tladi, have been compromised.

In a statement on 24 June, the local municipality informed the public of the matter after the breach was discovered on 23 June when Mayor Tladi attempted to access his accounts.

Simon Makua, EMLM Communications Manager, stated that the mayor was subsequently notified of messages from the hackers, requesting money and other information from people.

Makua said the municipality strongly advises the members of the public not to respond to those messages and not send any money to the scammers.

“Warning to everyone, please be cautious. The mayor’s phone has been hacked and the criminals are sending messages using his number, asking for money under the pretence that the mayor is in trouble. The mayor plans to report this incident to the South African Police Service,” added Makua.
